Watts to Mill Ltd
Watts to Mill was established 12 years with the purchase of a portable mill to harvest a shelter belt on Andrew's farm. For him having an avid interest in trees and a long time member of NZ Farm Forestry Assoc it was a natural progression.
Initially Andrew milled locally on his own but as work pressure increased he employed staff and began to concentrate more on the marketing of the timber. Eventually another mill was purchased and permanently housed. The purchase of timber from millers from Gisborne to Pahiatua provided the bulk of timber sourced to be graded and dried.
Macrocarpa has a high percentage of lower grade timber as a result of being unpruned so to maximise returns on those grades a manufacturing arm was created www.kiwibackyard.co.nz.
Kiwibackyard manufactures garden buildings and accessories... garden sheds, kids playhouses, dog kennels, chookhouses, mail boxes and garden beds, employing up to 12 staff during busy periods.
Watts to Mill and Kiwibackyard are located in the old Williams and Kettle grain store in Waipukurau, a classic old early New Zealand building fittingly built using timber beams and trusses.
